Copyright

Please read this very important note about Copyright protection. The U.S. Copyright Act (Title 17, United States Code) is designed to protect photographers and other artists by granting them the exclusive right to distribute, copy, edit and publish their photography by license, transfer or sale.

This is important because the Copyright Act prohibits anyone from copying, scanning, editing or sharing photographic prints, images or media without the written permission of the photographer. Violation of the Copyright Act may subject the party who infringe to both civil and criminal penalties.

Now, having shared that piece of legal information with you I'd like to see my images used by folks. It'd be really cool to sell an image or two as well. Hey, I like to crack a couple cold ones over a pizza on Saturday night with my wife as we watch TV. But I also realize that not everyone is in a position to fork over some coin for a couple of images. I also recognize that there are a lot of starving artist out there that may be interested in using some of my images in their artwork. There is a solution called the Creative Commons License. Contact me if you are interested in exchanging images and ideas. To learn more about Creative Common, continue reading.

In order to make some of my work available I've chosen to use the Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike cc by-nc-sa This license lets you remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as you credit me, John Newton, and license your new creations under the identical terms. You can download, after contacting me, and redistribute my work just like the by-nc-nd license, but you can also translate, make remixes, and produce new stories based on my work. All new work based on mine will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also be non-commercial in nature.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss any questions, comments or concerns you have about the Copyright and or the CC-License. Also, I think that if you wish to license any of my work for commercial usage that my fees are more than reasonable. Hey, a six pack of good beer and a large pizza don't cost all that much.

Check out the link at the bottom of the menu for a diagram that will help you decide if it is OK to copy an image.
