The Cyber Playground of John Newton
This is a special project that is very dear to me. Way back when I started working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, there were a number of feral cats wandering around the grounds of Fort Norfolk. At one point we were being over run with them and someone called in some people to trap them all. We later found out that they were destroyed. This upset several of us and we wanted to do something to make sure that the feline population didn't get out of hand again.
In doing research on feral cats we discovered Alley Cats Allies, a national organization that advocates managing, not destroying the cats. Without going into a lot of detail, they recommended a program of trap, spay, and release. The results have been extremely good. We have been able to maintain a relatively stable feline population now for close to fifteen years.
The link at the top of this section will take you to the photo album of our cats.
I hope to develop a dedicated site to the Corps Cats in the near future. They deserve their own home on the web
